John French, Presidents Report
Since the last newsletter, the major event has been the President's Annual Dinner that took place on 17 November 2017 at the Manor Hotel in Meriden. This proved to be an extremely enjoyable evening. We had a very good set of guests on the top table including the Mayor and Mayoress of Coventry (Mr Tony & Mrs Karen Skipper), the President of the Northamptonshire Law Society (Ika Castka), Vice President of the Birmingham Law Society (James Turner), Past President of the Chartered Institute of Insurers (Coventry) branch (Kevin Morris), Scott Coughtrie of St Ives Chambers, Jason Mole of PIB Insurance Brokers and last, but not least, Grace Higgins, West Midlands Regional Organiser for the chosen charity this year; Teenage Cancer Trust. The level of service at the hotel was excellent and the entertainment in the form of a magician (Paul Kybert) and comedian (Mike McClean) was outstanding.
150 people attended the dinner and we raised a total of just over £1,7000.00 for Teenage Cancer Trust on the night, which was an excellent outcome.
The Annual General Meeting of the Society will take place at Band Hatton Button LLP. 25 Warwick Road, Coventry, CV1 2EZ at 5.00pm on 22 February 2018, where a President for 2018/19 will be elected, together with a Vice President and hopefully a Deputy Vice President. After a year of searching for a Vice President and Deputy Vice President, we appear to be in a position where we may be able to choose someone for each position which will be a welcome boost to the Society. I will be putting myself forward again to be President for 1 more year and, if that occurs, then I will obviously be setting out next year's social events shortly thereafter.
Whoever is President will, no doubt, seek to maintain excellent relations with our brilliant sponsors this year (St Ives Chambers, PIB Insurance Brokers and Index Property Information) all of whom have offered great support to the Society including attending all the main social events. It is to be hoped that the relationship with out sponsors can develop further in the years to come.
Finally, I would like to say a personal thanks, to Lesley Hazell, Warwickshire Law Society's Administrator who has been of enormous help and support to me throughtout my presidential year, including another superb effort in organising the Annual Dinner.
Here's to a successful 2018/19 for the Society and all lawyers in Warwickshire.
