Hannah Bates – Winner of the Young Lawyer of the Year Award

Spotlight on… Hannah Bates, Young Lawyer of the Year 2015

The 2015 Annual Dinner ended in a special celebration for one young lawyer. Hannah Bates, Litigation Solicitor at Shakespeare Martineau and currently Immediate Past Chair of the Warwickshire Law Society Young Lawyers Group took top honors as she was crowned Young Lawyer of the Year 2015.

Hannah was nominated for the award by her peers at the Warwickshire Law Society Young Lawyers Group with current Chair, Bretherton’s Laura Stuart saying “Hannah has worked so hard in promoting the Warwickshire Law Society Young Lawyers Group and the Warwickshire Law Society, both of which were shown in Hannah’s launch of the Mentoring Scheme with Coventry University and our charity events”

After considering the nominations, 5 young lawyers were shortlisted to attend an interview with 2015 President, Alan East, our current President, David Murray and Ed Browne from sponsor of the award, Robert Walters.

Keeping the young lawyers in suspense until the Annual Dinner, Alan East announced Wright Hassall’s Patrick McCallum and Luke Moulton in second and third place respectively, before presenting Hannah with this year’s award.

In receiving the award Hannah said “I am over whelmed to have won this award and I am so grateful to the Young Lawyers for the nomination. Winning Young Lawyer of the Year added the icing to the cake after both qualifying as a solicitor and being invited to join Shakespeare Martineau this year.” Not to forget getting married as well Hannah!

In January Hannah, a Coventry University alumni, was welcomed back to address the students on her journey to becoming a young lawyer and her top tip to being successful…learning how to make a good cup of tea!

When asked whether winning the award had made any difference to her, Hannah said “winning the award was amazing, it brought new opportunities to me and particularly opened doors for me to continue to help other young lawyers on their career paths. If you are considering joining the Young Lawyers, do it! It is a great opportunity to build contacts, raise your profile and carry out charity work.”
